Developer JBG Smith, the preeminent property owner in Crystal City, has proposed a public-private partnership that would accelerate the construction of a second entrance to the Crystal City Metro station in 1-2 years. The proposal is set to be potentially be voted upon in mid-July.
The new entrance would be located adjacent to JBG property at the intersection of Crystal Drive and 18th Street. This is a block from the existing entrance and across the street from the Virginia Railway Express station.
JBG and its contractors would first conduct preliminary engineering and design work from October to April 2021. The cost of the work is projected at $3.73 million and would be funded by an existing $5.0 million Northern Virginia Transportation Authority grant.
