Six public schools in Montgomery County have earned the Maryland Green Schools Award this year for their work increasing environmental awareness.

These elementary schools—Beall, Georgian Forest, Kensington Parkwood, Monocacy, Wayside and Weller Road—have made a concerted effort to encourage sustainable practices and weave lessons about the environment into their curriculum. The green schools also emphasize professional development and community engagement on environmental issues, according to a news release.
